So many of my clients tell me how hard it is to feel seen in traditional boutiques. The sizing is limited. The atmosphere can feel intimidating. And trying things on often feels more discouraging than exciting. Always Knew is the exact opposite.

It’s by appointment only, so you can take your time and actually enjoy the process. Every gown comes in two sizes, which means more people can try things on comfortably. The change rooms are huge. The accessory selection is stunning. And every designer is Canadian, which I absolutely love.

This space feels like it was built for real people with real stories. It’s modern, calm, and welcoming in all the ways that matter. Ottawa really needed this, and I’m so glad it’s here.

Abby was incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely excited to help me find my dress. She really listened to what I was looking for, offered thoughtful suggestions, and made the whole process so much fun and stress-free.

I am wedding photographer, so I've had the opportunity to get to know Abby and Lizzie, the owners of Always Knew I Needed, and they are such wonderful powerhouse humans! I haven't had the opportunity to shop at this new store, but when I first walked in during the opening event, I knew it was going to be an amazing space for brides to find their dresses.

The bridal shop is bright, spacious, and so so welcoming. The decor is CUTE as heck (picture bows.. everywhere). And they carry Canadian designers, which is so important during these times. The staff at Always Knew I Needed are also so welcoming, and so fun, you really can't go wrong with checking out this store when searching for your dress - or even accessories!

This store was by far the best dress shopping experience I had in Ottawa! Lizzie was kind enough to open Always for us after we didn’t find quite what we were looking for at NKIN - I wasn’t sure what to expect but was blown away by the dresses at this store! The selection of Canadian designs is absolutely stunning, every single dress in the store was gorgeous, and they all come in 2 sizes to try on which is incredible. Lizzie was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, most of the dresses can be completely customized to your taste and she did a great job explaining all the options and finding examples of each thing. Every single thing she pulled for me was better than every other dress I’ve tried on elsewhere!

Outside of the selection, Lizzie also did a great job making us feel comfortable, explaining fabrics, helping understand different elements, and just contributing to making it an enjoyable experience. I highly recommend checking this spot out if you’re in the market for a wedding dress!

I found Arti gogna simply by doing a google search to find a dress for my maid of honor. I gotta say that I'm so grateful to have found her! The dresses are not only affordable but she has a ray of beautiful styles and colors. My maid of honor immediately found her dress and she is going to look so beautiful on our wedding day! It's also an added plus to be saying that the dress you got is made by local designer haha :) thank you so much Arti for helping us out during our appointment and for the amazing work that you do for making women feel beautiful in your dresses.

Arti Gogna Showroom - where can I even start ? This Montreal based designer knows how to properly make a gown that looks good on any body type . With a multitude of different fits and colour choices , you WILL find something without a doubt . Arti's service style is personal, patient , calm and honest. Her dress styles are young, sexy + fresh but also offer a mature and sophisticated flair . Did I mention reasonably priced ? I would recommend any future bride, bridesmaid or anyone seeking a fabulous dress for their event to contact Arti Gogna . I'm so glad I did :)

I found an Arti Gogna dress for my wedding at Boutique 1861 and immediately fell in love. When browsing their site, I found another dress that would be *perfect* for the reception and the team at Arti Gogna was incredibly helpful in answering my questions, getting the dress custom made in white, and turning it around so quickly to get it to me in time for the wedding day.

The dresses were both perfect - excellent quality, very reasonably priced, and so beautiful! I received so many compliments on both! Thanks for making me feel so great on my special day!

I found Arti Gogna as a new designer on Hudson Bay (The Bay) website. They have a variety of modern styles, nice fabric and a very very reasonable price. Unfortunately, the dress I chose was sold out in white, so I decided to try my luck on her website. I can’t explain how nice and fast her team was. They answered in the chat anytime I texted, and they were ready to make this dress for me, even in white (which was sold out everywhere else) and send it to me. But I don't need it anymore because the situation changed for me, but I am looking forward to order from them in the future. Montreal-based designer with an amazing team, trendy clothes and absolutely unbelievably good prices for these dresses. I wish you all the best in your business!

Nadiya is knowledgeable, professional, and able to instantly assess the best solution. Extremely competent and highly recommend!

I had a twill coat altered and the results were amazing—it looked like I had bought it that way! It felt amazing to wear something tailored for a petite person like me and it fit just right. Right away, she assessed that the buttons were too nice to move, so she suggested adjusting from the shoulders instead, which turned out perfectly.

She also worked on a beloved dress that was starting to fray at the sleeves, and not only fixed it but made the sleeve bigger and adjusted the keyhole. I'm glad I can keep the dress and adjusted to my preferences.

I can’t thank Nadiya enough for the incredible work she did on my wedding dress! I needed alterations done quickly, and she absolutely saved the day. She listened so carefully to exactly what I wanted and made sure every detail was perfect. Not only did she finish everything in such a short time, but the quality of her work was amazing—it looked like the dress was made just for me!

On top of that, her prices are very affordable, especially for the level of care and skill she provides. I’m beyond excited that my dress fits perfectly now, all thanks to her. Highly recommend Nadiya to anyone in need of alterations—you’ll be in great hands!

I got an appointment so quickly after booking. I came in for a fitting, alterations were done so quickly. I even called and asked to have sooner (anxious bride) no issues, and was done. She was very professional, friendly and talented ! My wedding dress is perfect !! Also, we noticed a small rip (from the actual dress company) and she fixed it in the spot, no hassle and no extra charge.

Working with Nadiia was an absolute joy! She’s incredibly talented, easy to communicate with, and delivered everything right on time. She took my vision and brought it to life beautifully—while also offering thoughtful suggestions that made the dress even more stunning and comfortable. The kind lady here helped me find my gorgeous green dress in June just in time for my prom :) she was so sweet and informative about colour theory and uplifting your mood while being honest if something don’t look that good. This store has a multitude of sizes for everyone and considering this was the first shop I walked into, I can say I left very happy as a plus sized person.

Barbara was amazing she really captured who we are in our ceremony to make our wedding so special,took her time and was extremely prepared and patient and never once rushed is. Carol was incredible, she made me feel comfortable and gave her expertise without ever pressuring me out of the vision I had for my dress. She let out the seams as the dress was a little small for me, hemmed a ton of the dress, and added sleeves to it. I initially thought I wanted off the shoulder sleeves but we played around with it where I was able to have the option of both on and off the shoulder and I could not have been happier with the results. I highly recommend her!!

Carol was an absolute gem to work with when it came to my wedding dress alterations and my maid of honour’s dress alterations. She was professional and so quick! Not to mention her prices were incredible. My wedding dress fit me perfectly. I was so happy with the end result! She even let me keep some of the scrap materials to use for our bouquets. I highly recommend Carol for all your alterations!

I went to Carol with a dress I got done in another country and she was kind and very helpful to help me understand what all would be required to make the dress fit well. Even though I decided to not spend more money on that dress, the experience of meeting her left me admiring her skill and her knowledge. Absolutely wonderful experience meeting her! 100% recommend.

She was absolutely fantastic to work with on my wedding dress (originally purchased from Durand Bridal) and my moms mother of the bride dress. I remember when I first called Antoinette, she sounded so nice on the phone that I immediately wanted to meet her in person. I was in the early stages of shopping for my wedding dress and I ended up falling in love with one of her gowns. After trying on a few dresses we were able to create a unique look inspired by her designs. I was nervous about doing something custom at first but Antoinette was very reassuring. Antoinette was amazing every step of the way. She is patient, a good listener and solution oriented. I cannot recommend her and her team enough, they are very talented and their clients are a priority. My dress was absolutely stunning and if I had to do it all over again, it would be with Antoinette and her team.

Antoinette and her team made all my wedding dress dreams come true. When I had started to look I honestly wasn't sure what I wanted. She really took the time to have my try on many beautiful gowns and eventually designed a custom dress that really made me feel like my most beautiful self. The whole process from choosing the dress to to final fittings was a pleasure.

You can tell that Antoinette loves her craft and that she will go above and beyond for her clients. She is meticulous and detail-oriented and that's reflected in all her dresses. My dress was tailored to fit me like a glove, and every single piece of lace was placed with intention.

Di Carlo Couture is conveniently located in the heart of Little Italy, Montreal. Antoinette Di Carlo is a master of her craft and a seasoned fashion designer. The moment I got engaged, I knew right off the bat she would be my go-to dress designer. I've inquired with Antoinette back in late 2018 for my wedding dress and had multiple fittings with her in 2019. For every fitting appointment, she was attentive to details, very personable and truly understands my needs/wants. Whenever I had questions, she would share her expertise and reassure my doubts. I must say, I am one of the lucky ones to have Antoinette design and custom make my dream dress. I can't thank her enough and hopefully, in the near future, I can get Antoinette to design my dress again for my vow renewal ;)

I had such a wonderful experience at Lea-Ann Belter Bridal in Toronto, and it was all thanks to Vanessa and her team. From my very first appointment, she made me feel so at ease. I was a bit nervous going in, but she was so warm and down-to-earth that I immediately felt comfortable and taken care of.

When my mam flew over from Ireland to help me pick the dress, Vanessa went out of her way to make the day really special for us. That meant so much to me, especially being away from home during such a big moment in my life.

Vanessa is a total perfectionist in the best way. She worked with me to create a custom gown using the top of one dress and the bottom of another—and it turned out even better than I imagined. She added buttons and made sure every single detail was just right before I flew back to Ireland. Nothing was too much trouble for her.

THE BEST WEDDING DRESS EXPERIENCE!

This isn't your typical salon where there are multiple brides and multiple appointments going on at once and you don't order your dress in your closest size and take it to get altered. This is truly a one stop shop with the most personal experience you could have.

The salon is beautiful and it is just you, your closest family and friends and Vanessa. She is so amazing and makes sure you are taken care of and really listens to you. She makes your vision come to life and does everything she can to make the dress of your dreams. All the dresses are absolutely stunning and they have such variety that they can fit everyone's style and if not there is so much customization available. I knew from my first visit that even if I didn't find a dress at Lea-Ann Belter in Toronto that I would make it work and find a dress just so I could work with Vanessa.

Once we chose the dress of my dreams, all the try on appointments were so wonderful. They make the dress to fit you and do all changes and alterations in house. Seeing the dress come alive is an amazing experience and you work with Vanessa every step of the way.

I don't even know where to start. I spent so long looking for my wedding dress with no luck until I stumbled upon Lea-Anne Belter. I shared my likes and dislikes for my wedding dress with Vanessa, the bridal consultant who she was able to pick out the most perfect dress for me (it even had a slit and pockets!). I was in good hands with Vanessa, who was extremely kind, knowledgeable and experienced.
The alterations and veil were done in house which was lifesaving given that I found the dress less than 6 months before the wedding.

I was so honoured to be a Lea-Ann Belter bride and I could not have had a better experience! I visited 5 bridal salons across Toronto and had hands-down the best experience at Lea-Ann Belter. Vanessa, the bridal consultant, was so knowledgeable, kind, and patient. I looked forward to every appointment I had! I was able to create a custom gown combined from two of the in-store gowns, embellish it exactly how I wanted, and was able to include my Mom's bow from her 1990 wedding dress, which they handled so carefully and it looks like it was made for the gown! I had 5 fittings with them to get the perfect fit, and was able to tweak every element of the dress, including adding pockets, to create exactly what I had envisioned. They provided the sweetest goodie bag for becoming an LBB bride, and the dress was arranged so well for my travel to the wedding out of town. They also included extra Swarovski crystals to replace any that got damaged during the day. The pricing was the best I've seen across bridal salons and it means so much to me that the dresses are created locally in Toronto. With so many beautiful and unique off-the rack gowns, and the ability to customize anything, I have no doubt that every bride can find her dream dress here. Plus you'll have the best, most uplifting, experience ever!

Yelena did an excellent job on hemming my daughter’s grad dress. The original skirt had a court train and Yelena was able to shorten it to floor length all around. This helped to get rid of the excess bulk and made walking easier. Yelena is kind and gives great advice on undergarments/accessories to complement the gown.

I had my daughter’s graduation dress altered here, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Yelena (the seamstress) was incredibly professional, paid close attention to every detail, and the final result was absolutely perfect. The quality of her work was impeccable. We’re so happy with how the dress turned out — I highly recommend her services!

Yelena is amazing at her craft and is very pleasant to work with! I came to her with two dresses for a wedding - a bridesmaid dress and a very unique dress made in Cameroon. The Cameroonian dress in particular was a challenge given the material and how big it fit on me initially. Yelena was patient and worked her magic. I was very happy with the outcome. She was amazing! My wedding dress came in defective and I didn't have time to do a replacement. So she rebuilt part of my dress and did the hemming and bustle in just a few weeks so I could wear my dress. 100% recommend

Leyla made my traditional Nigerian dress for my wedding. I needed it very last minute and brought her just left over material. With such little time , 48 hours, Leyla was able to create the most beautiful piece. She is not only an amazing seamstress but she is a brilliant designer. With the time crunch I was only able to consult with her briefly about what I wanted and she took that and created something so stunning that made me feel so beautiful on my big day. Leyla is very professional and talented designer! I can’t express enough how much I appreciate her alterations for my wedding gown! She saved my wedding dress, as It was a last minute call when I reached out to her. Without any hesitation Leyla altered my gown from size 14 to 10. It was done so accurately and attentively to every small detail that you can’t tell it ever been altered!

I am beyond happy with the alterations made to my mother of the bride gown. It fits perfectly and Leyla added some really nice touches that I didn’t even think of. It was done within 10 days. So awesome. Highly recommend her!!! And the bonus is she’s a lovely person.

Such a wonderful experience at Lovenote Bride - Ottawa!

I have been following Lovenote on social media for a while and had looked at the gowns online multiple times, and I am so happy that I booked an appointment during a trip to Ottawa. The customer service is amazing; Lara made sure to make me feel comfortable every step of the way, had great advice and was super understanding. The boutique is magical and I felt pretty in all the gowns. I love how you can customize, and mix and match bodices and skirts, and fabrics. I was lucky to buy a sample dress, and the discount was greater than what I've seen in other boutiques for sample dresses. Also, the instructions for caring for the dress were so detailed, they really exceeded my expectations!

I recommend to all brides, but especially to those who may have struggled with their body image or have had challenging previous wedding dress shopping experience(s), because for me, Lovenote is not only where I bought my wedding dress, but also where I managed to embrace my body and feel beautiful.

I'm so happy to have stumbled across Amelie during my search for my wedding dress in April 2021. We decided to get married six weeks before our date and I was worried I wouldn't find anything I liked. Amelie is such an amazing and talented seamstress and was able to create exactly what I wanted in such a quick turnaround (3-4 weeks!)

My experience with her was always pleasant and she was never pushy when it came to any decisions being made during the process. In fact, she offered alternatives and was able to work within my budget by offering other material that would essential re-create the same look.

The consultation visit involved trying on the different tops and bottoms to help decide what style dress you're looking for. I knew I wanted the jupe oiseau de paradis, but was uncertain with the top. With no hesitation at all, Amelie created two different style tops to try during our first fitting and I was able to make any final decisions from there with the top cassiopee. She even made a matching face mask.

With every fitting that followed ( there were 3 in total), Amelie was careful to make sure everything was perfect. By visit 3, the dress is yours and you take it home. There's even a nice finished touch but I won't spoil that surprise for you!

Communication was very quick as Amelie always replied within the same day. She was willing to be flexible with her schedule to work with yours when it came to follow-up appointments. Payment for the dress was also made in 3 instalments, and she accepts e-transfer.

Jim was absolutely amazing, and we honestly cannot recommend him enough! From the moment we met him at a wedding show in early 2024, we knew we were in good hands. At Savoir, they allow you to "custom order the size to your measurements" instead of ordering from a traditional size chart - this saved me SO much money in alterations.

We had an unfortunate DHL shipping delay (out of Savoir's control) and Anna was working around the clock to ensure my dress made it to Canada on time for my wedding (literally she would respond to my emails within 30mins at any time of day/night)! She truly treated my dress as if it was her own wedding dress. She understood my concerns/fears/joys. She made the entire experience smooth from the first appointment to the final pickup.
