Absolutely a horrible operation. Sent countless emails to change my email and no response! I even emailed the president with no result! I've left voice mails and no response! Is anyone else starting to wonder why we are paying these people?

RIBO - We gave our email addresses to keep us updated and informed of industry procedures and practices - NOT POACH the STAFF. Beyond Shameful.

The RIBO site is very difficult to navigate. The Chat assistant does not answer direct questions, it offers information based on key words in your query. This information may not be what you're requesting at all. I applied for my licence and selected the "have my agency pay later" option, only to learn almost a month later that the bill was never sent and the registration application was now dead-dated. A month lost, during which I was checking daily the status. This option should not be offered if it is not working. It is almost impossible to speak to anyone directly at RIBO, they seem to have directed everything to be dealt with online through their tricksy website. I am not at all impressed with the overall lack of service.

4 emails sent out to book my exam, only one reply to instruct me on how to pay the exam fee. Before March, there's not even a online visa payment option. I have sent everything they need by mail in early march, no confirmation, no reply, nothing. Start to wonder, if they already lost my mail (including the original form of policy record check/photos/cheque) RIBO is the only place that you can register your broker exam, maybe that's why they are being so irresponsible?

By far the worst customer service I have ever experienced anywhere. They do not answer your calls and do not answer your email. They take weeks and weeks just to get back to you on an application status. After weeks go by, they tell you we’re missing something and you gotta wait all over again. Another issue is that when you try to leave a message, their mailbox is full and can’t leave messages!?!? WHAT IS THIS? They don’t even bother clearing their mailbox... An absolute disgusting organization. I could give RIBO a 0/5 stars if I could.

Sadly I have to agree with the dismal reviews about this company. I have been dealing with the Toronto office about my brother's car insurance in the wake of his death. They were happy to maintain the insurance while I was arranging for transfer of ownership. But when I communicated to the information.client email address that I wanted to cancel the insurance effective immediately I received no response, and was then charged for another month. They refuse to reimburse this. I asked for a manager to call me back and was told this would happen within 2 days. That was 3 weeks ago. Nada. And no response to my subsequent emails. Moreover, they've refused to provide any confirmation in writing (i.e. via email) that the account had been terminated. Incredible!

I have been with this company for over 10 years. Never called them and never made a claim other than to add more drivers. Received a big document with many pages from them to fill with the same information they already have on file so I simply ignored as I saw no point. A few weeks after I received a rude email crafted by a rude person apparently asking me to look for another company because I didn't fill their multi pages document on time.

I called them to ensure they will indeed cancel my policy on time as it didn't take more than 1 hour to find a much better rate than what I was paying.

This company used to be super nice but apparently they got new rude management.

BEWARE
PROMOTE- As retired military, Personal Insurance seemed a good fit. This company promotes "Military rates"... their rate was below my current.
PITCH- Grace of first at fault accident, with no increase on policy payments.
Well, unfortunately I did have an at fault.
GRAB- Then my premium went up, well above the average increase.
I was told the increase was underwritten with 1. at fault accident 2. inflation.
Quote from associate..." you are responsible for a % of free at fault, its not completely free"
NEGLIGENCE- I received no notice of the increase. No email or hard copy. They just took the increase amount with no regard to my monthly budget...bouncing other monthly payments of their policy holders is not an issue for this company, neither is lying.

Do not use this company absolute nightmare to deal with. If you make a claim they will do anything not to pay you and agent do not call you back

Non-existence customer service. I asked for an annual report of how much I paid in insurance premiums for my policies for 2024 The first two reps were of zero help, the third one copied pasted instructions I already knew which involved requiring me to calculate the exact premium myself. Other insurance companies provide such reports without asking. I am taking my business elsewhere!

Bad experience, predatory practices. I didnt realize it was Aviva I had such horrible experiences with last year too, until I recently had to deal with them again and it all came back. Trying to talk with them to resolve an issue and them totally willing to screw me over. Really, you want to just pretend there's no fee for canceling a contract? Until I sign a new contract that I dont need and you charge me for it, for absolutely no service.

I almost gave them a star for having 1 normal interaction with me previously, I was able to change my insurance no issue But I took it away too because they could've given me a heads up at any time saying that unless I cancel, it will automatically renew. I was used to calling every year to re negotiate so it hadn't happened before. Honestly, it's not just Aviva or even this industry alone. Having limited options, no healthy competition let's these companies abuse customers with little consequence. Like really?! Across the board you have barely a two point rating!

Oh, almost forgot, I eventually asked to get a supervisor, they said no one was available and theyd call back; they didnt.
I called back and if it wasn't for me, walking them through how to help me and not taking no for an answer, I would be out a couple hundred dollars for nothing.

I tired to pay online and their site didn't work, so I tired to call and couldn't get a hold of someone. Then I tired to pay online again 3 days later, still didn't work. They sent me a letter saying they cancelled my insurance... and I have to pay a $60 fee as well to reinstate it. Stay away from this insurance even though it may be cheap, the service and availability of people is the worst.

I rate them 1 because there is no zero or negative star available. worst insurance company ever! Incompetent agents who are unable to do things properly. and respond to questions only by repeating themselves like a robot. Any blind person with average IQ can realize that I was not liable in the accident, but they say it's 50 / 50 by default because the other driver said so!!!

Just wait until its time to make a claim. Then you will see their true colors. Be prepared for your rate to go up by at least 20% even when you don't make any claims. They are a greedy corporation. Just like any other insurance. Its government sanctioned robery.

This was my first time booking with Sunwing, and it will definitely be my last.

We were denied boarding at the airport due to misinformation Sunwing provided. Before our trip, I called their customer service to confirm that my husband could travel to Cuba with his Canadian Certificate of Identity and Permanent Residency. I was told it was fine. We submitted all required documents, got the Cuban visa and QR code, and even received written confirmation from the Cuban Embassy that everything was in order. I still have that email.

But when we got to the airport, the gate agent refused to let my husband board, claiming his documents weren’t valid. Because of this, none of us—my husband, son, or I—were able to travel. The trip we had planned and looked forward to was ruined.

To make matters worse, when we opened a claim to request a refund, we were told it could take up to two months just to process the claim—and there’s no guarantee we’ll get our money back. Totally ridiculous.

DON’T YOU EVER BOOK YOUR VACATION WITH THEM.
They gave us wrong information, caused us to miss our trip, and now refuse to take responsibility in any timely or meaningful way.

We stayed at Grand Memories Santa Maria (Cuba) from June 27 to July 4, 2025, with a vacation package booked through Sunwing and flights operated by WestJet.

From the moment we arrived, the experience was unacceptable: the room was unsanitary (rusty beds, mold, insects, foul odors), the air conditioning was broken, and no housekeeping was done for days. We were unable to exchange beach towels despite several attempts, and the food quality was alarming.

One morning, my 12-year-old son was served an omelet with a dead fly inside. (See attached photo – this is exactly what was served.)

The worst happened on the return flight. My son urgently needed to use the restroom but was blocked by WestJet flight attendants for over 15 minutes because of the beverage service. He ended up wetting himself before being allowed to pass. This was humiliating and entirely avoidable.

I strongly advise families to avoid this hotel and this travel provider. Absolutely no care for basic hygiene, customer service, or the dignity of children.

When we got to Toronto international airport we were told that we check in at one gate and they would transfer us to another gate for departure. We were picked up by a bus that was mostly standup only. It was quite a ride to the other gate at the far end of the airport. We then had to wait for the plane which was like a bus terminal. Not too nice if you want to use one of the lounges because there isn’t any their.
We got on the plane no problem which was a newer 737. Very tight seating though, not comfortable for someone tall. We got to our destination and we were picked up at the Cancun airport by a Sunwing van. When we arrived at the resort they said we had to meet with our sunwing rep the next day. She said we had to pay a tourist tax on line which we tried to do but our credit cards rejected it as it was flagged as a possible fraudulent site. We waited the next day and spoke to a different rep and he said that it is possible that the site is fraudulent and don’t bother paying it because no one asks at the airport anyway. What a waste of time as now I had to cancel my credit card just in case it was fraudulent.
The holiday was perfect otherwise except on our last day sun wing forgot to pick us up to take us to the airport. We had to take a cab and pay $75.00 which the rep said we would have to claim when we got back. We did make a claim on their website so we will see how long it takes to get our money back.
The RIU palace riviera maya is a beautiful resort, the staff are very attentive and friendly and the food is excellent! The waiters are the best in Mexico! Highly recommend them.
P.S we did finally get a refund for the cab ride to the CanCun airport.

We recently booked a vacation package from Toronto to Cancun with Sunwing for myself, my spouse, and our two infant children. We booked two weeks in advance, and paid $1,905 per adult—a total of $4,495.46, excluding seat selection or any extras.

To our shock, just one week before the exact same flight and hotel, we saw the same package being offered for $1,385 per person—a difference of over $1,000 per person for the same room, flight, and dates. Our friends even booked the exact same tour from Montreal for $1,400.

This is completely unfair and disappointing. It seems like Sunwing is taking advantage of early bookers, especially from Toronto, and charging much more without any clear price protection policy. We feel cheated—almost $2,000 of our hard-earned money could have gone to better use.

We reached out to customer service, hoping for some understanding or support, but instead, we were met with rude and dismissive responses. No effort was made to explain or resolve the issue.

Sunwing, this is not how a responsible travel company should treat its customers. This experience has left a bitter taste, and unless something is done to address this, we will never book with Sunwing again—and we will make sure others know what to expect.

I recently traveled to Riu Palace Jamaica through Sunwing and had one of the worst vacation experiences I’ve ever had. Upon arrival, I was shocked to find cockroaches in my room — completely unacceptable for a hotel that claims to be high-end. I had to request a room change, which disrupted my stay and added unnecessary stress to what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation.

I contacted Sunwing multiple times, and while I received polite responses, their resolution process was extremely slow and ultimately unhelpful. Their supplier only offered a generic apology and took no real accountability for the unsanitary conditions. No compensation was offered for the inconvenience, loss of enjoyment, or the substandard accommodation.

I expected much better from Sunwing and their hotel partners. I’ve traveled many times before and have never dealt with such negligence. I will seriously reconsider booking with them again and strongly advise others to think twice before doing so.

Completely useless. Could not answer simple questions regarding how much their policies would cost.

I just called you to get a quote.
A gentleman asked me if it was possible to know the name of my current insurance company. I told him I'd prefer to keep that information to myself.
The gentleman hung up on me!
He told me that Impact Insurance wasn't interested in doing business with me.

Horrendous auto insurance service. It took 3 hrs on hold to insure my car. I have been with this insurance company for many years. The on line agents have huge turn over. There are always new agents that do not know what to do. It is basically a chance if you run into a bad agent and are unable to insure your car. Or you get a good agent and you are done in 20 min. Today it took 3 agents and 3 hours to insure my car. Disrespecrfull and untrained agents.

Absolutely pathetic of a company.... get boat damages and make my first claim ever... damages on the boat come in at 7k with labour included...

They offer me 1600$... what a joke of a company... I have 2 boats, 1 ATV, 1 side by side, 1 jeep wrangler, a Kia Carnival, a few trailers and home insurance all with them and pay upwards of 600$ a month... and then they send me a joke of an offer... I told them to cancel my claim and I'll gladly go elsewhere and pay for the damages myself instead of getting 1.6k and then pay a 1k deductible... and get 600$ for a claim I'll still lose money on lol... such a joke... I'm good... I'll keep my clean deciding record and no claims and just change companies... even if they charge me more... I'm still making the switch... i had fixed the rough temporarily to be able to tow it and use the boat for now... and the dude they sent to look at it removed some and left it damaged... they sent a 3rd party company when the guy who came told me they could have sent one of their own inspectors... oh well...

Very bad experience. We own a condo in Montreal on Union Ave and was rented out when bought. Now as we take possession, this company wants to charge more for the fact that the tenant is moving out! Difficult to talk any sense into these people. Their new premium was doubling the market average (did they have a business loss last year?). To add the final insult to the injury, when we called back to cancel the insurance policy, they refused to provide the full amount as shown in their own document about what the refund should have been. Questionable business ethics and totally unprofessional. Will not do the business with them again.

Thank you for trying to reach for a one time and I wasn’t ready for you. One time and you are threatening me to cancel my policy so I’m sorry that you had to make that effort after all this history with you. Anyway the issue has been regulated and everything is fine now. I’ll make sure to change my service to a more loyal and better company that they appreciate their clients.

They are pricey. But they are responsive. They pick your calls quickly

Never fails to disappoint with their poor service. My last call with Steve was terrible. I have never experienced such rude service before. First, I could not hear him properly and it sounded like he had just woken up from sleep to take the call. Then, after putting me on hold for about 20 seconds, he hung up on me.

Last year I was on hold for more than two hours. I usually pay my annual amount through the app and thought the service might have improved over the year.

This service is just horrible. I am cancelling all my services. It is simply not worth it

They are very unresponsive, even at the higher levels! My complaint to "The Office of the Ombudsman" has almost been ignored, and many of my concerns and questions were not responded to. I only received a general email from a supervisor who was only working there for 5 months and she responded without taking care of many of my concerns. I even visited their head office, but no one works here.
Extremely difficult to reach out to a manager.

My mom had car insurance with them for 25 years- recently we moved to New Brunswick from ONT. We all switched our licenses etc. Minus my brother who was on my mom's car insurance but who doesn't live in the country anymore. Instead of sending an email or calling my mother to inquire about the renewal etc. since it was coming up, they just canceled it. No notice, nothing! After 25 years of paying monthly on the dote never missed a payment. Yup. Thanks for rewarding her after 25 years.

I have never been so disgusted with any company as I am today with Allstate Insurance Canada. My Dad had a tenant policy that I was not aware of. When I tried to cancel it, they declined as I did not have Moms death certificate. I then provided a CRA document addressed to my Dad in 2024 at my address and it said he was widowed. Now they have declined because they want a document from that building stating he broke the lease. Craziness. It was 11 years ago. I had to put a stop payment to Allstate to cancel this policy. Do not ever deal with these idiots.

Extremely poor customer service. I spoke to a representative named Joseph that told me I can't change the date of my billing cycle. He refused to allow me to speak to someone in billing. He put me on hold to schedule a call back from his manager. I was put on hold for 20 minutes and he never returned. Absolutely ridiculous! I do not recommend All State at all. I will be cancelling my policy with them.

Please stay away from this company. Very wicked people . You will regret doing business with them. They will never return your call

Absolutely terrible company, should be avoided at all costs. They don't have their processes together which results in them making a bunch of clerical errors. They then blame you for their issues and deny coverage.

Absolutely exhausted by this company. My father passed away this previous summer and I have been doing nothing but run around to try and get through this process with them. Sickening that this is how a company treats a grieving daughter. Shame on you Sunlife. Stay far far away.

Sun Life is the worst insurance company in the world! Their website is stuck in the 80s and is not user friendly AT ALL. It would be quite easy for them to make it user friendly, but they choose not to, probably on purpose so they don't have to issue refunds. A lot of the claims you still have to submit by regular mail. Their online chat staff is condescending, especially when you asked how to navigate their ridiculous website.

My parents died February 6th and February 14th of this year. Sunlife's head office had been trying to communicate with our "advisor" what was needed to disburse my parents' life insurance funds. They had been emailing him for a month, and he never reached out to us. Every time we called customer service, they kept telling us it was "pending;" I finally got through to someone competent this morning who revealed to me that they had been following up with the advisor. No direct extension is available either for this person - horrible service in such delicate times. Quick to take your monthly premiums, but horrible at coordinating disbursement of the money that is rightfully yours.

I love the opportunity to be able to drop off my claims directly in the Sun Life drop off box in the lobby. You actually go after hours and ring the security from the front door buzzer and they will allow you in to drop off your claim.

Also worth noting is that the picture in the Google header is incorrect. It is showing the Sun Lufe building in downtown Ottawa. They have moved from there since and are at the Preston Street location now.

If a minus star was possible, I would give them a couple of minus stars. They are more of a scammer than insurers. Please take your business somewhere else before you are scammed too.

I had a months-long saga with them to get my vehicle repaired, which is still going on. The communication is atrocious, unprofessional and deceptive.

They booked an appointment for me and cancelled it with I wanted to confirm. They rescheduled me for two weeks later. When I reached out to confirm the appointment, they would not confirm it, maybe, again just to cancel it hours before the actual appointment.

To be honest, this has been the worst customer service experience I have had in my entire life.

The auto side of this company is an absolute joke. I have spent a total of over 6 hours for a simple auto accident when I lady plowed into me at a red light. After this company sent me an email with my updated documents and insurance slips (months ago for this calendar year 2025), sent me hard copies in mail they said I don’t have the assigned poly number in their system. But they issued all the documentation to make me think I’m covered. Each copy assigned has a policy number valid until Jan 2026. Then each staff you speak to treat you as if you’re in the wrong or must be crazy to say it’s an Aviva problem. Here is the best part…although they can’t access my policy number when I need them they sure can access my bank account when they take out my dues each month. Aviva says I am to take it up with my broker who has told me my policy is valid (same number I keep giving Aviva). Smart Coverage has even contacted Aviva to tell them I’m valid. Aviva clearly takes no notes as I have to explain my situation every call after 30-40mins on hold. Smart coverage even gave me step by step on how to handle the situation with Aviva as instructed by Aviva staff. I followed up after another hour call and my third time trying to submit this claim only to be told they can’t go forward and need my broker approval again. I even provided them the name and extension of the staff who already was told I was valid. Dogsh*t company I would run far away. Sadly I’m stuck with them until this mess is dealt with. I will be demanding compensation for this absolute farce of a business.

Abysmal times to answer phones. Hours wasted on hold. Websites are non-functional and always seem to be down for "temporary errors". Competitive rates don't matter if you can't file a claim.

Call a month earlier to cancel my renewal, cause I was shopping for new insurance. Called back 2 days after my renewal, waited an hour on hold, dude tells me I'm calling the quebec side, even though I called the number on the pink slip, another 20 mins and yelling they finally cancel my policy. They wanted to charge me $400 after 2 days. F this company, complete thieves... stay away.

I have had group insurance with La Capitale Assurances (now Beneva) for several years. Last November, I signed up for a dental plan with them for the following year. Following a dental appointment, I submitted a claim on their website and my claim was denied on the grounds that I am not insured for dental care even though I pay my premiums out of my salary. This is frustrating because I have other dental expenses coming up and there is no guarantee that I will be able to receive the reimbursements I am entitled to within a reasonable timeframe, even though that was the whole point of signing up for their dental insurance. Very disappointing!!
